EGT what is safe?
what is a safe range for my egts. pulling my boat i can see anywhere for 800 to 1200. i have a 3.5'' ss down tube and 4'' ss with no muffler. my egt sensor is in my drivers side exhaust manifold. did not see any change when i took stock exhaust off and went to 4'' ss. is that do to location of my sensor

You are in the safe zone. Your probe is in the correct location too.
Pre-turbo EGT's (manifold temps) have a "redline" of 1250 degrees. You can go above 1250 in short bursts such as drag racing, but you never want to sustain temps over 1250 for any long period of time.
So you are good to go.
