i have a 4x4 86 ford f-250 with auto trans and a 351 windsor and a holley 4 barrel carburator. When the the motor is cold it will start and drive but after it has ran a just few minutes it will cut out and die. After this it will sometimes start and idle but, when you put it in gear an try to move it will cut out an die. I have changed plugs an messed wit timing but am not making much of an improvement.
Welcome to F.T.E. fuel pump could be on its way out when it dies look in carb and move throtle and look at gas stream in carb.I have had three fuel pumps go out pretty much like yours is doing
I checked the carb after the truck died and there was still a good stream of fuel. I started it and just tried to keep it running and found out the truck will idle on its own for a couple minutes when its still cool but after it warms up it will idle for few seconds and then slow way down an die but if i keep pushing the peadal when it starts to die i can keep it running till it gets good an warm then sometimes i can get it into gear an drive.
is it the factory 4 barrel the motorcraft holley or aftermarket holley. I've had problems with the motor/holleys with the main jets pluging up.Rebuild kits for these are more then a holley.if you can keep it running by playing with throttel could be egr stuck, vacuum leak or bad gaskit.
It is a motorcraft holly carb and i put a rebuild kit in the the carb last spring trying to get it to run it made a lil improvement but not much. Im gona try putting coil an brain box of another ol truck on it and see if that helps.
Ive rebuild a few of the motorcraft holleys kits aren't cheap and had no luck I changed them out to 600 holleys and they run great I had a problem with the back barrels stang open and flooding on one.Ive had one that just misses driving down the road at 35 mph rebuild same issues.1 that just stop running after sitting for a few weeks.

Don't forget the pickup in the distributor.
Really you should test these components hot (like out of a 225* oven) before you waste a lot of time and money just putting on "new" parts.
