Howdy FTE. Starting problems galore. I thought I fixed them, but no avail. Here is my latest YouTube - Starting Prob 3 2 09 .
It is the audio I wanted, but the video shows the gauges in case it helps. Basically, I have the romps, then finally sounds like its starting, but if I stop turning the key it doesn't run. When I turn the key, and wait a few seconds there is a psshhhhh sound - like a fart, that comes from the engine compartment (so its not me), and seems to be near the power steering area, after the fuel pump starts up.
So, what I have done so far: replaced 2 injectors, new glowplugs, new wiring harness under the valve covers, replaced oil with synthetic, replaced fuel filter, batteries charges, solar trickle charger on the batts. It been down around 30-35 here for the last few try to starts, although Friday it started up just fine, I cycled the glowplugs once, and she booted right up. The problem is intermittent, and if I can get the truck running it seems to go away until left alone for a few days. I did not check the oil level in the HP reservoir, but in the last few goes, it has been high enough.
Thanks. I have tried unplugging the ICP - it did not change the hard to start. It does have some oil on it. I asked for a CPS change when I was in for the first oil change (got the truck this summer), not positive if they did it - I am not sure I got charged for it. I have a "new" gray one (I understand the black ones are hard to come by now). I will change it in the next few days. I also plan on charging the batts back up, they are on a solar charger, but probably not enough umph to get the back up to full power. Is there a way to check the IPR, or will a bad IPR throw codes?
If your ICP has oil on it you need to replace it. Probably not the main problem but it is leaking through the contacts. I would try to pull codes if you can. If you switch to a 5w-40 syn. that would help depending on the temps where you are at. Also, make sure your glow plug system is working correctly.
