hey guys, heres my problem. I have a 96 f250 with a 5.8 w/o mass air. If its been running and I shut it off and wait about ten minutes and go to start it again, it will turn over way longer than it should and then start. If its cold it will fire right up. I've replaced plugs and wires and coil already. The guy at the local shop says my timing is probably too far advanced. Think he's right? Any help is awesome. Thanks
When was the last time you had a tune-up? Stuff like plugs, wires and filters. It could be worth checking the timing and I would also check the fuel pressure. Hope this helps.
I'd check fuel pressure cold and then when hot. I had a very similar problem with a Mustang only it would crank "all day" and not start after it was already warmed up. Turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. I was just wondering if the IAC could be giving you trouble also. If these aren't the problem I'd check the other things mentioned so far in this thread.
i would say its timing too fast only cause i had the same problem also check ur batt cables cause it takes more to turn over a warm motor than a cold one
I'd would start with the fuel pressure guage. Check the pressure when the engine is cold and then warm it up and check it and then after you have shut it down for the ten minutes or so and check it while you are attempting to start it again.
