If the gov gets to determine what's in my child's best interest, then they can foot the bill for raising said chidren. Then again who actually listens to the UN.
The UN is an organization bent on policies detrimental to the US, it should be treated as such..............I suggest a new UN headquarters be built,..........In Rwanda.
Wow. If this passes, the only logical thing to do will be to bankrupt the government by forcing them to make millions of parental decision each and every day until they finally surrender. It would take the cooperation of all the parents across the country, though.
"Is it okay for me to send my child to church today?"
"Is it ok for me to take away my child's PS3?"
"My child wants ice cream for dinner, but I want to serve him chicken and broccoli, am I in trouble?"
"My son wants me to buy him a truck, but I don't think he deserves one. Will I go to jail?"
I saw this on a AP site as well. Supposedly only the US and Sudan have not signed the treaty. The UN when first founded by the US, Russia, Britian, France and i forget the fifth country, it had its good intentions. But then the world changed, but the UN didnt. Look what the Kennedy admin had to do during the Cuban Missle Crisis. Basically use the UN to put the soviets on under the spotlight saying they were lying and covering up that they were not putting missles on Cuban soil. The days of the UN are long over due. It should fade into the sunset and let the world move on. Besides, New York and the Federal government could really use the money that is being wasted on the UN.
If you click on the Madeline Albright link, it gets you to the UN site. You can then find the actual treaty by clicking on Certified True Copies on the left side. Section IV number 11. Best to save the pdf
Some notes
1. The pdf is long because it's in multiple languages. First section seems to be Chinese -- but don't panic, it gets better!
2. Most of the stuff is pretty wishy washy. Also, at least one section mentions the legal rights of parents, etc
3. Yes, all of those countries signed. Most signed with a lot of exceptions.
(we reserve the ...)
I'm relatively conservative, but I don't know if this is any big deal.
As for the UN, I tend to think that it's needed. It has it's problems, but the world needs a place to at least try to settle differences.
Just my .02. Hope this discussion stays out of the club.
