How do I check the fuel pressure? where is the fuel rail nipple to hook up? and can I use a standard fuel pressure tester? Also whats a good way to test for a leak? such as the intake manifold? can I spray some ether into the area that I think is leaking? The reason I ask is my truck cranks and runs fine through 1/3 throttle but when you punch it, its weak. This simptom occured after I blocked the egr cooler, replaced the ICP and harness, I also replaced the oil cooler and one injector because of a studder when going into overdrive, the studder is gone but know I am having a problem with low boost. I have checked and rechecked the pipe connections but its the same ole same. any ideas?
Locate the upper fuel filter housing. You will notice a small plug with an allen socket head, remove this and install the fuel pressure adapter. Then connect your pressure tester to the adapter. You may not need the adapter if your tester has extra fittings in the metric sizes.
This photo shows my Recon fuel pressure kit. Note the adapter needed to go into the fuel filter housing is at the bottomof the pic. It's another option. I chose this option for about $200 because I could also have my egt, boost and fuel pressure all in one unit mounted just to the left and below my instrument cluster.
Oh yah. It records maximum and minimum values that you can read. You can also set a low fuel pressure alarm that will start flashing the display to get your attention.

I'd love to see a pic of the gauge panel from inside your cab.
If your looking for a good fuel pressure test kit try [http/www.tooldiscounter.com] kit # statu-32-4pb, It's 180.00 and has all the fittings you'll need.

Recon display mounted on dash.. It's displaying my EGT here. A green dot appears in the corner of the display next to the parameter being monitored.
I thought it was important enough to monitor fuel pressure full time that I skipped getting a temporary guage. Also, you are not dumping fuel on the ground each time you might need to break that filter connection loose.
for a one time or ocasional test couldnt he just press and hald the trip counter button before cranking the truck ant put it in test mode? I guess if a few of us reported what pressures our say under different situations he would have a baseline?

What do you see on the display when you do that?
That looks nice, I might have to invest in one of those instead of a round dial-type gauge. Where did you get it? Was it hard to install?
You can do a search for "Quadzilla Recon XZT". I would stay away from Thoroughbred Diesel. They were very lazy about getting me the correct pressure sensor part even after I told them it was an emergency.
IT's pretty easy to install. You crimp a wire tap onto the middle lead of your MAP sensor for Boost. You drill a hole into your exhaust manifold and tap it with a 1/8" pipe tape for the EGT sensor and for the fuel pressure you remove the 6mm allen wrench plug at the bottom of the topside fuel filter and screw in the assembly I showed in the above photo. All very easy except they recommend having the engine running while you drill into the exhaust to blow out all the chips. The fun part is tapping that drilled hole while you are choking on the diesel exhaust fumes.
sorry for all the typos. If you hold the trip counter down until it says test then start your truck, all the gauges sweep, then you can use the trip button to scroll through a whole list of items including volts, fuel pressure, door switches ect. I havent found a complete list but search for "test mode" and you get some.

I already have a pillar pod w/ EGT, trans and boost. I just want to add a fuel pressure gauge, and I like that one you have. But I just need a FP gauge, I assume by your reply that what you have is more than just a fuel pressure gauge?
O.K.
I noticed dedicated fuel gauges when I started my searches for a continuos monitoring guage. The less expensive gauges work with a pressure sensor type diaphram device that is mounted in your engine compartment. That diaphram device relays the fuel pressure from the filter port to your guage in the cab. It keeps fuel in the engine compartment. The other side of that diaphram device is filled with a non-flammable fluid. It's that fluid that carries the pressure signal through a capillary line going to your gauge in your cab.
