I've got an 89 Bronco with the black rubber/chrome trim. My understanding is that this is just "glued on". If so, what's the best way to remove the trim and any leftover adhesive? I'm guessing that I'll have to touch up the paint after.
Main reason for this is I'm looking to spray either body color Rhino Lining or Line-X from the lower body break to the bottom of the rockers. That should help with the rock chips, etc
i thought about this one for awhile, and the best I can come up with, is to gently pry a start section of the trim off with something soft, but sturdy, like a plasic putty smoother, or an evqivlent.
Then go inside, and put some water on to boil, and get a boxcutter, or a utility knife.
Let the water come to almost a boil, NOT TO A BOIL, YOU JUST WANT IT HOT. Go out to your truck, and starting at the section you pryed free, pour the water over the adhesive to warm it, then cut it with the utility blade, making sure the blade is angled away from the actual surface of the truck.
Youll have to repeat this procedure for all the different sections of molding, but if its the same adhesive they use on insigina, this should work.
Or you could just pry a section loose, and rip it off the truck.....
Body shops use a heatgun, becareful ,you want to get it soft enough to pull right off, work slow ,just get it hot or warm and it will come right off. don't over heat or you could warp the panel
we use them all the time. then use prepsol to clean the glue off.
