Body trim removal.

to get the molding off of a 67 to 72 truck, here it goes, on the fenders start with the point in the front, on the backside of the fender (inside the wheel well)there will be 2 nuts i think there 3/8, get a small wire brush and clean the threads and WD40 them, these let the 2 point clips loose, But let that piece come off with the whole fender trim otherwise you risk bending it, seperate it after its off the truck, then you will have one more nut at the rear of the fender, you will have to open the door to get to this one, clean and remove these 3 nuts. in between the 3 bolted on clips there is 3 rivited on plastic clips, 1 is centered the other 2 are close to the bolted on clips on each end. when the plastic was newer they were a little tougher to get off, but by now they usually give up easy, for pulling the molding out at the bottom i like to use a heavy duty gague 1 to 1 1/2 scrapper with the end bent at a angle wrapped with duct tape to keep from scratching paint. but use what you have, take your thumb and put pressure downward on the molding and pull out at the bottom, it should pop off, the door molding is basicly the same way of removal, you have a bolted on clip on each end of the molding (accessable without taking the door panel off) and 3 rivited on clips in between, remove the nuts and repeat the process, the box molding can be a bit tougher 2 bolted on clips at each end and on a 8' bed there is 8 rivited on clips in between. to get to the front bolted clip you have to get your hand up to the double wall ( i usually use a 1/4 drive ratchet with a socket here). a small end wrench comes in handy also, the rear clip take the taillight & backing assy off and get to the clip nut there. 67 to 69 has the molding all the way to the end of the box, the 70 to 72 has a marker light at the end, if your truck has the lower moulding it comes off the same way, if your truck has the 70 to 72 ranger/ranger XLT wide belt moulding it all comes off about the same way except the clips have 2 nuts or rivets on the center (belt) moulding. to remove the aluminum rivets you can drill them if the clips are worth saving, if there not worth saving break them off and use wire snips
to get the rivets off. I hope all of this info helps, Jess
