Cruise control has been around for a few decades now. Seems to me that the model years you inquired about would already have cruise control installed.
If for some reason those model years don't have cruise control installed then it won't just be a matter of changing out the steering wheel. You'll have to install a cruise control servo, make sure the cruise control servo linkage will properly connect to the throttle linkage, install the cruise safety shutoff switches, etc.
Yes thats kinda what I thought, but the cruise would come w/ the servo, linkage, saftey switch, maybe even the new fuse link. The on off switches are in the steering wheel with the airbag.
I would think you would have to look pretty hard to find a truck withOUT cruise
That's correct. If the Poster did buy a cruise control system then it should have everything he needs in order for it to work properly.
But, he asked if those model years came "pre-wired" for cruise. That's what confused me. I couldn't see Ford installing all the cruise control hardware and then not install the proper steering wheel, or some other means of activating the cruise.
I have no idea what a cruise control system would cost.
Your suggestion to find a truck that already has it installed is the best answer to his question.
Well, I have been looking at some V6 equiped trucks and most of them have not had cruise on them. I was just wondering if the plugs were there to hook up the cruise servo and stuff. I know on Rangers some did not come with cruise but some were pre-wired for it while others were not.

I can't answer if the F150 is pre-wired or not but I do know the Crown Vic's are ALL wired for cruise, installed or not. I'm going to add cruise to our Interceptor demo car next week. All that is required is a servo/cable assy and a steering wheel with cruise. Done several of them already. Wiring them all keeps Ford from having to make two different harnesses. So it IS done, for sure.

That's news to me. I dont' know why Ford, or any manufacturer, would do that.
"Pre-wiring" a cruise control system takes alot of parts. Especially considering all the built in safety cutoff switches. So, why would they leave out one, or two, parts?
Why not just install them and be done with it?
It can't be the money. This is all done on the assembly line. Just grab the right part and install it.
I guess since all of the sensors for cruise also feed info to the PCM for other functions it's just a matter of adding a few wires and connectors. Still, I don't know if they do that on the trucks.
