thanks guys - some good input here..

the guy is the second owner and i know he only plows his driveway with it - i know that for a fact. as for the first owner, i don't know if he plowed a lot, but i would expect a lot more rust and a sloppy front end if it was plowed a lot. i have a plow on my current truck and know all about the abuses of plowing.

well now that i got some good thoughts, here's the deal...

he listed the truck for $7k. i went and checked it out and said market is really $4500-$5000. he came back at $6250 (without the snow tires). i sent him several links to ebay auctions of similiar trucks selling for a lot less to let him know where i'm coming from. he then came down to $6000 (still high). i love a good deal as much as the next guy, but i'm not trying to rip him off either. i let him know i still feel $4500-$5000 is fair - and based on what you guys are saying, its still too high.....

maybe i should ask this question - if you owned this truck, for what price would you expect it to sell? does that change your answers at all?

Great question. I would have a hard time answering that question because I havne't had anything bigger than the '89 F150, V8 302, 2W 5spd that I currently have. I paid much more than I would have liked. I look at the 350 as being the superduty that it is. Question, is the engine deisel, powerstroke, or the likes. I ask that becasue the powerstrokes are like timex watches, they take a hit and keep on ticking. But for a 13 year old truck, I still think it is high even for a F350 unless it was in a more than "FAIR" condition. IF it was much closer to Excellent yes. Even a "GOOD" condition may warrant a closer $6000 price if everything was to very minor repair status . Snow, ice and salt are killers on a vehicle. IF he is willing to go into the $5000, then it should just work.

as you described, without being able to see it, with the added info (finally) of the real money you both are talking about: right around $5,500 sounds about right.

i'm sorry, but this reply makes no sense to me. how did knowing what he was asking and i was offering help you arrive at your decision of $5500, and is it a strange coincidence that the figure you arrived at just happened to split the difference????

i have a funny feeling that if i said he was asking $4000 and i was offering $3000 that you would tell me that $3500 sounds about right...

do you see my point here? do you see how knowing the dollar amounts biased your opinion? this is why i withheld this information - i want a price based on the truck, not based on his or my thoughts of its value.

but i do happen to agree with the $5500 figure (including extra tires). The consensus seems to be thats still high for this truck, but i think i would be willing to go there... but that absolute tops.

I think some pictures of the truck would have been helpful and influenced my decision. Of course what the truck would be worth to you and to me may be very different numbers. What it's worth on KBB may be different again.

The only way I'd want it would be if I was getting a real reasonable price on it. I know what pushing snow does to these things. You would be much better of getting a 4wd that ma& pa drove to church on sunday & buying a used plow to hang on it.
Plus 1 on that.

Here's my two pennies worth.

First, I wouldn't buy a used 4x4 plow truck from the Northeast unless you intend to spend plenty of time under it. I grew up in Maine.

Secondly, I'm no fan of electric or electro hydraulic snow plows. The fact that the plow isn't working properly in my opinion is the same as the plow not being there. It's useless in it's current state.

Thirdly, have you seen any maintanence records? There's plenty of maintenance to be done a work truck that earns it's salt.

Fouth. If you want a HD Ford of that vintage then expand your search out west. That may sound stupid, but rust will be a non issue. Rust and neglect are the biggest enemies of our older Fords.

Lastly, this dude is trying to sell the truck during the final months of winter when the value is higher. Come spring when the snow is melted, the truck will be worth less moeny and he knows it.

If your bent on this truck and you see it as a must have, bring him $3500 cash and dare him to turn it down.

Tim

Those prices seem awfully high to me. Out here in BC, regular cab trucks don't hold as much value. At those prices (converted to canadian $) you'd get an absolutely mint supercab with all the bells and whistles or a really nice crewcab.

If its me, I'd keep looking...

i did not intend this to be a brain teaser for anyone - just trying to get a concensus on what a truck is worth outside of my opinion and the seller's opinion. i thought this point was pretty straight forward but i apologize if it was not.

i think i've arrived at a consensus based on a lot of good input - and that consensus is that the truck is overpriced. i just wanted to be sure i was being fair with my offer and if anything, i am being overly generous. thanks to all for your opinions.

There are a lot of fantastic Ford minds here on this forum, (me excluded). If you give them the straight information upfront about anything concerning your Ford truck, they'll bust thier butts to assist, I promise. I usually only have opinions as my mechanical abilities and experience are sub par, but there are some awesome techs and just plain hot mechaincs here.

Now I am just a a guy with grease under my nails, without mileage and being able to look it over with my own eyes, I would say the truck blue books somewhere around $5000.00 to $5500.00 that being said I always knock about $1000.00 off when a plow is installed because of the extra wear it puts on a truck. It sounds like another $500 in items needing attention soon... So my starting point would be somewhere between $3500.00 to $4000.00 but that's just me.

If it was mine I'd ask between $5 and $5.5K

I bought my 94 Sport 4x for $4500, with 37K miles, rusted wheel wells, cab corner, and rusted door sill. But I bought it from my uncle, who bought it new, and only plowed with it 3-4 years. And it's a bare bones XL 4.9 5-speed, no power nothing, A/C, tape deck, carpets.....nothin'.......But it's only hauled a few bags at most of trash to the dump, never had a trailer behind it, and was never put in low range until I got it.

But yeah, between $5k and $5,500 for your query.
