Help with truck value

I'm going to look at a 74 highboy this weekend and I need a little help with a value. Now I have not seen it in person yet, but I have seen pics and talked to the seller a bit. Unfortunately I don't have a way to get the pics off my phone to post them. Here is what I know:

1974 F250 Ranger 4x4
428FE engine (not original obviously) with C6 Transmission Undetermined mileage but estimated at about 40k since rebuild on both.
4.10 gears, posi rear. Supposedly rebuilt same time as engine & trans. I'm not positive but I think he said it was Dana 60 front and rear, which would be awesome if correct!
factory A/C & Tinted windows
Fairly new aftermarket wheels and tire.
Bed has built in toolbox.
Supposedly originally from California. Claims to be no rust other than two spots on the bed. I can see the spots in the pics, look to be about 2" or so.
Bench seat from a newer truck with flip down console.

From the pictures it looks like a nice truck. The exterior looks pretty good except for the two rust spots. Seller said a horse bumped it and chipped the paint. The interior is fair, looks like it could use some cleaning and sprucing up, but workable as-is. The engine looks fair, but could also use some cleaning. Aluminum intake with aftermarket carb, don't know what kind. A/C is not working right now but it is all there. Supposed to run and drive great. Seller has receipts from the guy he bought it from who did the work.

That is all I know for right now. In this area I have seen asking prices for similar trucks range from $5,500 to $10,000 plus. That is asking price. The only for sure sales I know of were one truck for $6k and another for $5,000. Both of those were original engines and not rebuilt.

I am a newbie to these trucks so I am not 100% sure what to look for and what is a reasonable price. So based on that what would you guestimate the value of the truck to be? Any help would be appreciated.

Given what you have posted here, I personally would no be comfortable going over $4500. But there is a lot of "what's it worth to me" in this kind of vehicle. Blue Book and NADA are not going to be of much help.

Yeah, no solid book on values and for some reason these trucks are just higher in my area than in other places in the country. In some cases double what you would pay for the same truck elsewhere. Oh how I wish it could be like it is out west. Not much rust and pretty cheap!

I live in Olympia Washington and truck prices are decent in my opinion. Here is a link for what may be a high boy but it is not advertised as one
http://Seattle.Craig's list.org/oly/cto/433232781.html
I had to manually enter the link so I hope it works.

would look close at the front axle. two kinds of dana 60s if i remember right. the high pinion version in the 78 and 79s, also a low pinion version in the earlier trucks. from what i read the seller is asking 10,000. for me it would have to be all orignal and untouched. without proof or receipts or pictures with dates i would be careful of what has said been rebuilt. would pull a spark plug and check the stroke for a 428. block numbers dont prove much. some one with more knowlege then me will be here to help also. i wouldnt pay over 3500 to 5000 and that would be pushing my level of comfort.

There better be a WHOLE lot'a truck for 10k. Nothing rusty, dirty, no paint chips, nothing needing cleaned up, no leaking anything, nothing needing fixed.

A/c should be up and running and keeping my ice cream froze and better have hard proof of the rebuild. I would want to talk to the guy that did it, personally.

74 has older style steering (ram assist) set up and has not that good of a rep, I would want a 78/79 conversion. 74 has in cab gas tank, not the best deal out there. Probably a closed axle low pinion D60, its not all that in the D60 world.

I am talking show truck for 10 K, cause that is alot of $$ to me. Shop carefully, cause a fool and his money part ways when ol slick ***** get to wheeling and dealing.

Some times the truck will sell itself to you, so DO NOT let the WOW FACTOR of it, make you make a bad decision, ask me how I know...

He isn't asking $10k, that is the upper end of the range I have seen these going for in this area. Restored trucks run $10-15k. I'm not sure why prices are so much higher here than the rest of the country. There aren't many of these around, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Post up the price don't be scared, we wont laugh out loud. It sound like a nice truck, no worries. Just don't post the craigslist add, so some wanny be Ford owning chebby guy driving doesn't under buy it from you. lol

We will either go "dang that alot of money" or "dang where it that steal of a deal".

He's asking $7k. No idea what he will come down to. Maybe these Southern trucks have gold plated parts!

7000, ok still all the things in my list, but the a/c does not have to be that cold. And I not have to meet the engine re-builder personally, but I would go by his shop....lol good luck with it.
