I am negotiating with a seller on a truck I want. I know what similiar trucks are going for and use that to base my price, but i want your opinions. Here are the details on the truck:
1996 F350 XL regular cab, long bed. 351 with E4OD auto transmission and 4.10 rears - 4wd. single rear wheels. the only options are cab lights, A/C, sliding rear window, and second fuel tank. it has a receiver hitch on it, but not sure if its factory or not. truck has 94,000 miles.
the sheet metal and paint on the truck is in good shape - only some surface rust coming up over one of the rear wheels on the bed. original paint all around (so it appears). the frame is solid with the typical surface rust - nothing to be concerned with. the interior is in nice shape. everything functions properly on the truck and it drives down the road as it should. the only things that need attention is the exhaust (rotting out with holes from cat back) and the oil pan (some heavy rust on it - may need replacement soon). otherwise, the truck is in very good shape.
aftermarket add-ons include diamond plate on bed rails, 3 inch tall chrome strip down sides of truck along rocker panels (possible rust haven - but probably not), bed liner, hood bug visor, CD radio, step bars (that flex when you step on them), 33x12.50 BFG all terrian tires on aluminum rims (tread remaining at about 60%) and a set of stock rims with new snow tires. truck has an 8 foot western unimount plow - plow is not currently working but probably a simple electrical fix.
i like this truck and have looked at about 3 others so far (all 95-97 F350's). i feel the seller is high based on what others are selling for. these trucks are not rare by any means, but it can be tough to find one in CT without rust. based on the above facts, what do you think the current market value of this truck is? thanks.
then i will say between $1000 and $10,000 would be a good range.
he's actually asking $40,000, but i don't want to spend a dime over $39 grand.....
now for anyone willing to seriously help with the question - if you saw the truck i describe above with a "for sale" sign in the window, what do you think would be a fair price?
if i said he's asking $4,000 or $14,000 - its irrelevant. just looking for what you guys think is fair for this truck. if i ommitted anything in my above discription or if further detail is needed, let me know. thanks.
I would just check the kelly blue book and the add the options like the plow value on to it. If it has 94,000 & has been pushing snow it's whole life commerically and by that I mean anything more than the guy's driveway. The only way I'd want it would be if I was getting a real reasonable price on it. I know what pushing snow does to these things. You would be much better of getting a 4wd that ma& pa drove to church on sunday & buying a used plow to hang on it.
For me I would say $3500.00 would be absolute top dollar of what I would pay and that's if it ran and drove great too. Personally I would have him keep the plow and knock off $500.00 because I wouldn't want it.

I believe I understand your frustrations Linckeil. I don't understand some people when it comes to providing an unbiased serious opinion, right Quicklook2? But here is my .02. I think there are a few other details that may be needed to make the best decision, but you have provided enough to get the minds thinking. It looks as though the truck is in "FAIR" condition. Think about the items that comes on the truck from the factory and the depreciation from then to now. Then think of the add-on. Some you may want, maybe you may decide to upgrade, or you may remove. Fords are pretty good truck overll but there resale value isn't as high as our foreigh makers. I would suggest a price within the range of $3000 to $5000.00. Keep in mind the items that you will need to fix sooner than later, i.e. the exhaust, oil pan and others. Eventually you will need tires, tune up, and others. Depending on when those will be done, you may be able to recupe your money further down the road. Otherwise take those into account when you negotiate. Hope this helps.
