Fan doesnt blow on low setting????

My fan only blows on the second thru highest setting. The low setting blows nothing. I believe this is a vacuum problem but cant find anything? Any ideas?

I don't think it is the vacuum prob. - that usually causes the heater to stay on defrost only and will not blow from other vents. The fan losing low speed is probably caused by a bad blower motor resistor. I wish I had access to a service manual to get a good idea of the location, but if what I read through some searches here it should be on the passenger side fire wall near the back of the blower motor, small rectangular block bolted into the air ducts. Like I said I'm kinda guessing here but at the very least I'll bump you back to the top where someone else can add more info.

On my wife's Cavalier and my sister's TrailBlazer the blower motor resister was the problem. They are not Ford's, but I have seen this part fix that problem a ton of times. They are usually $20.

Mine did the same thing, turned out to be the resistor located on the box around the heater core under the hood on the passengers side of the engine compartment.

Fan doesnt blow on low setting????

Mine did that also and it was the resistor under the hood on the passenger side in the box that covers the heater and air-conditioner cores. My wire that went to the resistor were also all corroded and I had to get a new plug from the dealer and splice it in.

Its the resistor, only a 15 dollar part from ford, it controls the speeds on the blower motor, its right next to your blower motor under the hood. The long periods of running melt them or they get corrosion on them. Prob should look into gettin the pigtail for it to the tend to melt to the resistor.

What they all said. My neighbor's '01 5.4 liter F250 had the same isse. Be careful with the plug . His had gotten so hot that it had partially melted. Even so, it's still a relatively cheap fix.

Ok, I went out and found multiple plugs. Can you be more specific?

Theres a plug going directly into the front of the blower motor, two wires...power and ground. Then theres a plug just a few inches towards the drivers side that has 4 wires. It had some rust inside but when I unplugged it the blower motor still ran so thats not the plug. Which one is it?

The plug that shows as the thermal limiter harness has some rust inside it. So Im wondering if its the harness that needs replacing or if the actual thermal limiter is bad? How can I tell?
