I'm thinking of calling all the local dealerships to see if they have any black ones left on the shelf.
That's the good one right ?
Since my truck has 130,000 with the original maybe I can get one 'to go'.
I doubt that they have the black ones. I got a phone message from a dealer some time ago wanting me to bring mine in for the recall. I just deleted the message.
Just called my local dealer about it and they said breing it in anytime that it will take approx. 90 minutes to complete and no it doesn't cost me anything. Where is the CPS located on a 2000 7.3L?

CPS is on the front of the motor, to the left of the crank pulley. It's the only sensor anywhere in that neighborhood.
I'm shocked that they said 90 minutes. That must include the time to write up a slip telling you about the other $$$$ that they have to fix for you.
Well, I stopped by the dealership today and spoke to the service manager. He was only willing replace the cps in the truck, would not give me the cps for a spare.
I replace mine in 05 with a black one from IH for $ 98.00 and been fine since. I'm leaving it alone.
I took my letter to the local dealer and asked if they could just hand me the new one and not put it in the truck. They told me no since it was a "safety recall" they HAD to install it. I told them that if they installed it I would just drive home and take it out and install my black one. They would give me the old one back. I also said the gray one is worse and their reply was, we haven't heard anything like that.
I trust the guys on FTE when they say the gray one isn't worth it. Some dealers just don't have the knowledge.
I will not do the recall. Only if they hand the gray one to me in the bag so I can stuff in the glove box.
Went to the dealership today and the guy behind the counter was a complete d*ck. I asked him if i could just have the sensor and he said no. I said alright thanks for your help. So he says to me, you came down here and you're not going to have us do it, well what was the point of coming in here. I replied, i'm not going to fix something that's not broke and i've heard to many stories about the grey one causing to many problems. He replies, well i'm glad to see you work for ford and know everything about their trucks, have a nice day. And then he walked in the back.
