What all engines could i put in my 79 f-150 4x4 with the t-18 tranny, i am engine shoping and found a few good deals but not sure what all would fit, found a 429 for $350.
anything will work from a 300-6 to a 514 stroker. small blocks, big blocks, mid-blocks.. they all fit.... a 429 for 350.00 is a screemin deal... i'd go with that.
You have a 385 sreies bellhousing already. This will bolt up to the 429 / 460. In fact it is an easy swap. You just have to get some conversion enging mounts and a pass side exhaust manifold from a car, or headers. You wil also have to make sure that you get all of the accessories so you can mount the alternator and power steering, etc.
Lots of aftermarket to support this upgrade.
the best bet for low end grunt, like you need in a truck is the 460. they make a boat load of torqe down low where ya need it. the 429 is more of a car big bloock, they make tons of horsepower at a higher rpm...... but if you can get the 429 for that cheap, i'd just buy that and build it into a truck engine. that can be done it's all about having the right induction setup and the rite cam. you need that power down low not up high.
exactly what i said, the 460 is the best choice........but if you can get the 429, i'd just build a 429 truck engine. you can make a 429 make low end power, you just gotta build it rite....
