i have heard both ways, that you can install one without removing to turbo, and some say that you must remove the turbo, what did you all do. and will i notice any difference in sound or boost power?
i did it in the truck on mine. You will notice a little more whistle but it pretty much cured the surge on mine. Not really any performance gains accept where it would have been surging before. Overall a good mod, for the price dont wait...do it!
I tried to do it with the turbo in the truck, but was scared to death of messing up the exhaust fins. I just pulled the turbo. I found that much easier, and you get a good chance to see other things you mite miss if the turbo is in there (leaking up-pipes, etc). I suggest pulling it
I agree the with keeping the turbo on to change the wheel. I like to change the pedestal o-rings while in there, plus the o-rings to the block. I think that is the way to go if this has not been done.
well what about sound will it whistle louder or spool faster?
Yes it will whistle louder.
No it may not spool any faster, it was designed to eliminate the "surging" from the stock turbo, not to improve spool time. The WW is designed to flow slightly less air to eliminate the surging. I have one on mine and am reaching around 32 psi or so, and I didnt notice a gain or loss on spool either. But yes definitaly louder whistle
I've done both -- installed the wheel on the truck, and pulled the turbo. I'd pull the turbo. LOL....
Dan's video doesn't do the WW justice. If you have a 6637 and the insulation pulled off the I/C pipe, you'll hear a hell of a scream around 10-15psi... I liked it.
Right now I'm running a van turbo with the stock wheel & ATS -- there is overall more whistle, but the WW has a peak whistle that's louder than the stock wheel in the ATS. I'm told that the WW + ATS is *SICK* whistle. I never tried it myself since I am more interested in performance than whistle. The stock wheel will make higher boost numbers.
