Ive done it. 96 12V to a 99 F350. If I had to do it again I would use a 03+ 5.9 CR motor.... Destroked.com is the #1 name in conversion parts these days....

Why would you have used the common rail over a 12v? I have access to a '94 6TB that was in an industrial generator.
Just curious. I'm waiting 'till the big boom from under the hood and going to seriously look at this as an option.
You would want to hang out in the 7.3 forum I would imagine. A lot of people with those model yrs have done that modification, moreso then the 6.0 crowd if I were to guess(more then likely due to the issues of mating it with the 6.0 tranny).
Bean at Bean's Diesel Performance(who is local to me) has done it with his sled pulling truck, and he would probably be able to help you out thru the process and he does do the destroked conversions.

I would go with a CR this time around because it is a little quieter, a little more refined and just as easy to wire up. (Ok, its 4 more wires....but still). Dont get me wrong, I love my 12V, and am in the process of upgrading to a bigger injection pump and twin turbos, and for bullet proof simplicity the Cummins 12V cannot be beat. Either way I think the truck is now better with a Cummins under the hood.
My mileage went up 1 or 2 MPG at most, but I did get another 200+HP to the rear wheels in the process.

Wow, I managed the same mpg and round the same rwhp gains and I still have the same 6.0 that I started with. I would image the cost of the mods that I did would be around the same as it cost you to do the conversion.
