They should be the same. The 2003 may have the updated cylinder heads with 8 threads per hole instead of the troublesome 4 threads per hole of the earlier engines. Other than that they should be identical. Good luck!

Why would there be a difference? The F-250 is a LD model so it is the same body. The transmissions are different. The F-250LD will have the 4R100 and the other one will have the 4R70W.

But that's one concern. Will engine code L blot up to both transmissions?

The only possible thing that I can see there is a difference in the flex plates. That is rectified by swapping in the one that is appropriate for the transmission used.

Okay, i'm taking your word for it. Another guy said they only made two different 5.4's and as long as it was the L engine code it would work. The interchange book has been wrong before, but not often.

There are two different 4.6L engines, a Romeo and a Windsor. The 5.4L are all Romeo engines.

The 5.4L are Windsor, not Romeo!!!!!!!!!

The difference is that the SD didn't get the PI engines until 01 I believe. Our 2000 F250SD where I used to work did not have a PI 5.4L.
