Question ATF Question

Thinking about running AmsOil Synthetic ATF. wondering if anyone has any thoughts. also had a question about service intervals. My 07 F350 6.0L has just over 36000 miles and was wondering how much service i need to do, whether just a bypass trans filter change, in pan filter change or even a full blown flush. thanks for any imput.
Corey.

If your trans spec's for the SP fluid, I would stick with the Motorcraft fluid.

Even though the Amsoil is a "Universial" and says its applicable to the Mercron SP fluid type?

I wouldn't use AMSOIL in a TorqShift. That trans is EXTREMELY sensitive to having the right fluid. If it doesn't work you are looking at a very expensive repair that is not covered by Ford's warranty. Maybe you'd be able to get AMSOIL to warranty it.

MERCON SP is already a synthetic. What are you gaining by using the wrong fluid?

My dad was talked into Amsoil ATF by a friend who is a dealer. He's had no problems and its been about 15k miles, shifts great and he tows heavy (grossed 31.5k before). Another friend who owns a tranny shop prefers using the Amsoil in TorqShift service, hasn't had any problems. Personally, I'll stick with SP for now.

Amsoil

I use amsoil everything I own. Crankcase oil, gear oil and transmission fluid...With one exception...My Torqshift. That gets Motorcraft Mercon V. I am sure the Amsoil would be fine but I don't want to chance it. The Motorcraft is already synthetic and I get it for a reasonable price at the local dealer.

I hope you mean Mercon SP, otherwise what is the point of using Amsoil everywhere except in the transmission where you use the wrong fluid instead.

Ford can't deny your warranty because you're not using their lubricant; it's a federal law under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The law states that if that there is the only fluid that can be used to maintain your warranty then they must provide it to you free of charge. I believe Amsoil's warranty reads that they will warranty the repair if you can prove that using their oil caused the damage. Personally, I run Mercon in mine.

Bet that'll be easy to do!

Another vote for sticking with Motorcraft.

That's not true. Ford can and does mandate a specification for the fluid that maintains the warranty. AMSOIL does not submit their fluid for analysis, so they cannot state that their fluid meets MERCON SP. If you read their label carefully you'll see that they do not state that it meets MERCON SP specs.

If you use this and have a failure Ford is not on the hook for the repair. You used the wrong fluid, you pay for it.

Yes, they do. That's why I said maybe you could get AMSOIL for pay for any damage. Maybe they will.....

Question does the TorqShift tranny have two filters? One in the tranny pan and the other inline? I think I to will stick with the Motorcraft ATF.
Thanks ~Gage~

What can make the trans not want to shift into OD, Also my Tow/Haul light is blinking. Fluid is full, less than 13k miles on the fuild, I have not changed the pan filter. I got the truck 13k miles ago, changed fuilds, install an ebay 6.0 engine. Has never gave me any problems. Thanks for the upcoming help!!
