I've been really lucky with Motorcraft batteries...

hotter climates not so much. I've seen batteries go well in excess of 6+ years back home in Texas. The batteries don't have to work so hard in the heat, so they last longer
I'm in Michigan (going down to 6 degrees F tomorrow night--sounds cold to me), have an '02 E150 that was built in June of 2002, converted later that year, and I bought it new in February '03.
It has 69k miles on it, and the original battery...so the battery is going on 7 years old(!!)
My wife's '98 Sable had the original battery in it until it was about 6.5 years old, and I replaced it just to be safe (my wife works downtown in Detroit). With another Motorcraft battery. Figured a new battery is cheaper than one road service call, and we kept the car another couple years, so I figured I'd need to replace it anyway.
I've had incredible luck with OEM Motorcraft batteries. I don't think either of these vehicles ever needed a jump for any reason. I've been driving almost 40 years, so I've gone through a LOT of batteries.
Out here in the desert, if you have a battery that has finished 2 yrs of summers, you are on borrowed time. Most parts stores employees will tell you that too. I have seen a few that made it to 3 or 4, but not the norm. Outside temps of 115, and underhood temps of ??? Especially the sealed batterys, they just dry up if you cant add water. I have a Optima in my 390 truck, but a Wally World in my F150. They never last til the warranty runs out, so back I go for a free new one.
I still have the Motorcraft battery that came in my '04 and after 75,000 miles she still cranks fine. The truck sat for 34 days in November-December when I had to go to a school for work, and it fired right up when I got back.
