It's a single plane manifold and as such is not a real good street manifold.

Go OEM 4bbl and be done with it. Unless yo want to do some light porting and portmatch work, but it's unnecessary for the intended use from the sound of it.

The picture is showing a dual plane. That sounds right for your application. I have an offy, single plane Port O Sonic which I am going to use on my 428. I wouldn't bid much over $200.
I don't know anything about that manifold but I'm planning on port matching my manifold because it is tiny compared to my heads.

Does anyone else think that intake was milled at the intake ports? Either that, or Offy did some weird castings. Look at the forward edge of the intake, near the intake ports and see how the casting comes to a pretty sharp edge?

That is NOT a dual plane manifold. This manifold even has the exhaust crossover which is not desireable either. It is a SINGLE PLANE not a dual plane manifold and for his aplication is going to hurt low end throttle response and torque. It is worth nothing to him.

That's the first single-plane I've ever seen with two distinct plenums

On second thought, it does look weird - like one complete bank of cylinders is on one side of the intake, all connected together, while the other side is separate.

The FE doesn't fire bank-to-bank evenly, so that would be a weirdo thing.

Single and dual plane has nothing to do with the plenum. To be a dual plane manifold requires that runner cross over each other. Two distinct levels. This is a single plane, one level. It also has to do with which cylinders are tied together, the reason for a dual plane manifold and on the FE the bad cylinders to tie together are #7 and #8 as they fire one after the other. With a dual plane #7 and #8 are on separate sides of the carb (plenum if you prefer). With this manifold they are on the same side which quite often leads to a lean condition on #8.

The confusion here is the separator running down the middle. Looks like a "dual plane" but the wrong cylinders are tied together.

For instance, cylinders 1-4 are on one plane, 5-8 on the other.

That's one dang weird setup.

That is a Split Plane ( Single plane ) It is split by Left bank and right back for a reverse rotation Marine FE. I have work with a few of these and there good for a engine that works at one small range of rpm constantly. Marine engine work all the time while Automotive engine coast a lot. Do Not Run this on a car or truck, You be wishing for a new enegine by the end of the day running this intake

manifold

Good eye Art, it does look like it has had the bejeebers milled off the sides. I wouldn't pay more than 20 $ for it. I've seen these tested, and wondered what they were for. The marine idea makes sense, 'cause they didn't do well at all in the tests I read. DinosaurFan
