how expensive and how much trouble is it to replace a flywheel. i have had my 2002 f250 7.3 psd for six months or so and it grinds on the fly wheel when i go to crank it sometimes. its only done it like 4 times now i was just curious if i should leave it like it or mess with putting a new one on

They are about $125 and obviously you have to get your tranny out of the way to install it. Probably a 6-8 hr deal.

Just did mine. Mechanic said it was about 5 to 6 hrs of work with putting on a new starter. You might want to consider putting in a new starter. It could be what's grinding out your flywheel. When the tranny was out he did the flywheel, rear main seal and the 2 rear oil galley drain pulgs (I think that's what they're called I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).
