Hey guys. I've got a 1992 F150 straight six automatic. i have been thinking about straight piping it. I am wondering if any of you have any preferences on what the best way to do that would be. Does it give it a good tone or will another exhaust system make it sound better? Also is it worth it to straight pipe it or not for performance and does it what does it do to fuel mileage. Please comment if you have any experience with doing this at all. Thanks
I personally would go with the Clifford headers (dual outlet), hi-flow cat(s), and glasspack(s) or flowmaster muffler(s) with 2 1/4" pipes and an x- or h-pipe to balance the exhaust. Decent sound and performance. Running straight pipes with no cat and / or muffler can lead to burned exhaust valves.
"Good tone" and "sound better" cannot be defined. It is all in the ear of the beholder. Go through the exhaust sound sticky at the top of this Forum for examples on different configurations.
i have a 92 and i ran it without the muffler for like 4 months. it sounded sweet! nice and smooth and deep. but it got really annoying when i couldnt hear my date one saturday so i slapped one on. knects for like 30 buck a flowmaster knock off. sounds good outside and hardly any cab noise. i didnt notice any power difference because there aint much power to work with in the first place
