Straight pipe or not to Straight pipe???

So getting ready to get a new exhaust on the 2010 f150 4.6L, all the exhausts I have heard and researched seem to be to quite and straight pipes seem to be over the top. Any advice?

flowmaster 10 series or any short bullet type muffler. both compare their sound reduction to "open headers"

none of them are "quite"

is it true that you lose a lot of power from straight pipes and it could damage the motor?

i think the risk for either is highly over-stated.

you'll still have the converters and, i assume, full length tail pipes. These will provide plenty of flow restriction for things to work as they should.

the biggest risk you run is a check engine light from insufficient EGR flow due to lack of back pressure. but as i said, i doubt it. if you had tube headers, no cats, and no mufflers or even high flow mufflers, you would see a CEL, but for what you are talking about, i wouldn't worry about it.

you're more likely to get a ticket for disrupting the peace than anything else. i don't think it will be much fun to drive either -- i would think the drone at 2000 rpm would give you a headache in short order, but that's just me.

post a video if you go straight out, i'd kinda like to hear it, just for giggles.

Yeah I think I'm going to try the straight pipes. Worst thing that could happen if it becomes a nuisance is I just cut out a chunk before the Y and put in a muffler. I should have you a video in the next couple days!!!

Here is a video of my setup. Original 40 Series Flowmaster dual out the back. I think its the right balance of sound and performance.

No other videos yet but if you want more I can make them to help in your decision. And its 3.5" tips, I went out and measured the diameter.
