The Red Line I bought from Summit was $49.95 for the gallon jug and $12.95 for the quart bottles, plus shipping of $9.95 so an overall cost of $14.30/qt so yeah $17.99/qt is in the right realm.
Don't forget to add the extra cost of friction modifier if the oil doesn't already have it....
As a follow up to my previous post I wanted to add that the Mobil1 75w140 I used in my rear axle contained limited slip additive. I believe it read 75w140ls on the bottle. I've had zero chatter with the fluid so while the fluid was $17.99 a quart no additional modifier was needed.
Also, Make sure you clean both the diff cover and axle housing good to get rid of the old slicone. When you reassemble the cover with new silicone let it set up for an hour or so before you add the fluid. I used Permatex Ultra Black rtv silicone. After researching the Permatex website that was the best silicone for the job.
