need transfer case fluid confirmation

the manual lists the same mercon lv transmission fluid for the transfer case as it does the transmission

however, the fluid in the transfer case isn't red. same stuff still?

guess the manual is right, transfer case fluid is red just couldn't tell in the light i was in

course, ford's website says NOT to add it to any transfer cases... Motorcraft® Transmission Fluids ? The Official Ford Parts Site | FordParts.com

Strange that the web pages don't quite agree. The owner's manual calls for WSS-M2C938-A which is Mercon LV.

In my half ton truck I rarely get drained fluid from the transfer case that looks like transmission fluid in good shape. It's always dark. Beats me why.

How many miles did you have on the fluid?

Yes, you can find a bottle that is labeled as only "Transfer Case Fluid". But under the covers, it's probably just ATF. The transfer case is nowhere near as picky as the transmission.

not a '17 in that video and no mention of mercon lv

the only thing i learned from that video is that i'm exceedingly happy that i don't live somewhere where they salt the roads
