Couldnt get the zf trans in a half ton either... Looks like someone did some drivetrain swappin in the last 20 years.
Gotta love pullin trucks outta the weeds man, This is what my F-250 looked like the week i brought it home. It had been sitting on the edge of a farmers field, with a big round hay bale leaning on it. Found all sorts of mouse turds around, even had 3 dead ones in the air cleaner box, and 2 under the seat. Had been drivin my wrecked F150 there like that for 3 months waiting for spring to come and bring the F250 home. Be glad your hood and roof hadnt gotten as bad as mine!
oh when I saw GT for the first time in 3 years I expected him to be a rotted out rust bucket but to my Surprise the old Truck looks remarkably well given where it sat for 3 years 36 months n a field and it looks that good ofcourse for good measure the frames got rust on it from where those pin heads put it and it sank down into the mud but I'm thinking pull the bed and clean it up not too enthusiastic about pulling the whole front clip off though.......How hard is it to remove the cab??? and on that topic does the 87 have cab mounts like the 68 I'm going to be getting???
pulling the front clip is pretty involved, theres a LOT of really small screws and bolts to work with, I pulled the front off of my 1990 when I did a motor/tranny unit swap and wanted the extra room, but as long as you keep track of all the little screws( ziploc bags and a sharpie work great) its actually pretty easy.
As for taking the cab off, yeah cant really help on that, but theres gotta be someone here whose done it.
I want to do GT Justice Hes always came through and done what ever I've asked of him not to mention the Fact that GT is the last thing my Grand Parents Bought me granted it was posthumously but still
I discovered they've also trashed the TPS aswell so that And the Fuel injector harness has to be replaced at minimum and I'll have to find a junk yard with a EFI 300 still in the truck or that atleast still has a wiring harness attached to look at the wiring for the IAC Valve from the main harness so I can splice in the wire in the correct sequence cause ford has it with 2 red wires that don't appear to have any distinguishable marks on them to differentiate them from one another so I need to see them on a previously running unmolested engine to see the way the 3 wires relate to each other Unless some one on here can get me a picture of their Speed Density 300s wiring harness to the Idle Air Control Valve hint hint hint
I suggest just getting the whole underhood harness from the salvage yard and then replace all of it.
You could also just replace whats messed up and save the remaining wire harness as a spare.
When you remove the junk yard harness take a bunch of pictures and label the connectors with masking tape and a sharpie marker.
Just about any 87-95 4.9 should be ok to use. Just make sure there isn't a mass air sensor like the 96 probably has. Somebody correct this statement if it is incorrect.
Bump, hows it goin with GT court? I got Shelby all fixed up with some longer legs and bigger shoes, and she looks real nice now.....Anything more you need help with?

Eh no further progress really I'm at a stand still until I can locate a Fuel Injector Wiring Harness all the other stuff it needs is pretty much off the shelf stuff I've been out today to look at an 67 F100 it like my 68 was a Farm Truck and it looks like they'd built in some sorta compressor in or under the bed cause the quick disconnect fittings/Jacks for two compressor lines exited right above the bumper in the middle it had been off the road since 02 they wanted 400 or best offer on it. BUT whilst we were there some dude named Michael walked up and asked if we were interested in that type of truck we said Yes and he informed us that his Dad has a 71 F100 Ranger complete with all chrome trim and a 351 not sure if he meant 352 or the 351W with a 4 on the floor irregardless the Dads wanting to unload it so we shall see what they offer it for after Monday THEN theres still my 68 F100 Ranger I want so thats 3 potential trucks although with the 67 I might just see if they'd part with the front bumper for it and the mirrors..........The bod on it however is very straight no substancial rust and certainly nothing more than surface rust. It had no tail gate though which kinda sucks but eh for 400 or less who can complain
Hey Court,
Sometimes I have a problem remembering details of my misspent youth. But if I recall right, there were a lot of parts yards out on Shepard Dr. in Houston? Did you call any of them for the wiring harness or possible some of the yards around the Humble area? Might be faster and cheaper to bite the bullet and check their prices? If not go to Painless wiring and get a new one! A big PITA but at least you'll know all the wiring is new? If I duplicated someone elses thread suggestions, sorry, didn't read them all.
Ok, so you need to bring back that dull, faded paint?
I've got the stuff for you!
Do you have a local Carquest Body Shop Supply or similar store?
You need access to a good buffer, a set of good pads, and this magic liquid.
It's made by Norton and is their Liquid Ice system.
You will need a wool pad for removing all the oxidation and such.
Then a fine foam pad for bringing out the shine!
If you use Liquid Ice liberally on the surface while your truck is in a shady, cool area you will be astonished with the results.
And no worries! It's clear-coat safe!
Feel free to ask me any in depth questions you may have!
Also, your body damage isn't too bad. It's all fixable. The roof dents should pop out for the most part. and that fender scratch is just 3 coats of Rage away from being flat again.
Order a new F150 badge from JC Whitney and use an adhesive remove to pull off that leftover glue before mounting the new one.
I can go on forever with little tips and tricks for you so just let me know man!
