Tachometer purchase questions.
Where else can I get a low RPM (max 4-6 grand) tach for a reasonable (under 50 bucks) cost? I am thinking of buying a digital tach from JC Whitney for $45 with induction pickup that clamps around a spark plug wire. Anybody have this tach? Is it well lit and easy to read? The only other low RPM tach Whitney has is the $65 0-4000 tach (plus $25 for case if mounting on dash) that I put in my F150, but it is too big to fit nicely in my 1990 E350 motorhome (460 V8). I thought about a cheap $20 0-8000 tach and setting it to 4 cyl to use whole scale but that would be a bit weird unless I could re-number the thing. All I want is one that mounts on top of the dash and not to spend a lot of money.

Autometer has 2 low RPM tachs for around $80-90. The first is #2890 (0-4000) and the 2nd is #2891 (0-6000). I've found that most of the cheap tachs are just that....cheap and inaccurate. IMO, when it comes to monitoring my engine I'll gladly pay a few extra $$ for a quality piece.

traildawg. Thanks, One cannot go wrong with autometer, though the one in my '95 F150 300 I6 (photo), sold by J.C. Whitney (about $65), meets auto manufacturer standards according to the company that makes it. I may go with a digital at J.C. Whitney for $45, though. Would like to see the low RPM autometer, if you have a digital photo to post.

The left is #2890 and the right is #2891. Both are 2 5/8" units and run about $80-90.
