Mech Tach Adaptability

Other than a Tach Drive Distributor & Adaptors for the Gen. for a Mech Tach to be run off of, is there an alternative way of attaching a Mech Drive Tach so that it'll work?
I've already thought of gutting one of the ones I've got & grafting an Electric Tach into it using the Original Face Plate & Needle, though that seems it would be a rather big headache to do it in that manner.
I've a dash or two that already has the Aire Gauge & Mech Tach mounted in them & wish to utilize them in both my rigs.
As I wish to maintain the Original looks of the Instrumentation I'll not be needing suggestions about using Modern looking Tachs, thank'ee kindly.

You have already listed the two places I remember, but how about a gear mounted on a rocker? The meshing gear could be mounted to the valve cover, with the cable exiting out the back of the cover.

The only other places I can think of is arround the crank - either up front, from the balancer, or off the flywheel - maybe mounted in the sheetmetal cover at the bottom.

What is wrong with running it from the generator? That is how Henry did it.

Yeah ... is it possible to run a mechanical tach on a 223 six-cylinder? Off the generator or otherwise?

Sure - just needed a pickup somewhere. The ones I remember were installed on the back of the generator, with a slot drive driven by the armature shaft. I looked through my shop manual and did not see any, but did find this one on the Internet. It is off a English scooter, but they all worked like this. The real problem was to match the gear ratio in the gearbox if you drove it from anything but the crankshaft.

If you can get to the armature and cut a slot, plus find a way to mount the gearbox, it will work. It spins a cable much like a speedometer cable. One problem - you will have to figure your own gear ratio.
