rig an original 4000rpm big truck tach to my 63 f250 4x4 with 292? i have the tach and correct dash panel (factory 3 holer). i realize the tach is cable driven and that's about all i know. i'm assuming i need a big truck distributer and a cable but not sure if that is possible with my f250. don't know what to get or what is available used, nos, new or what i can rig up if anything. other alternative, and what i'll pbly end up having to do, is just put a correct size autoparts store tach in the hole or maybe take the face off my original tach and put it on a new tach. thanks for any information.
Ford offered optional tachs that mounted on the steering column or top of the dash. Similar tachs can be bought at autoparts stores, no tach drive dizzy or cable required.
How about a steering column mounted 1965/67 Mustang Rallye Pak? Not only to you get a tach, but a clock too.
Please post your progress. I would love to find a factory tach and replace the mechanicals with the electric movement. You give me inspiration. I the interim I have purchased a 2 inch digital tach for $30 and will mount it under the dash.
There is also a module you can buy that would convert an electronic pulse to a cable drive for mechanical tachs and speedos but i dont have a link to it.
Thanks for that link Dave I know what tachs Ill be putting in my trucks now.
No problem. Wild Horses also sells a volt meter that can be swapped in place of the ammeter that came around the speedo on the early broncos. I swapped my gauge cluster for a bronco one a while back because i wanted the oil pressure and a volt meter without adding holes. I didnt know about the wild horses volt meter so i modified an extra autometer gauge to work, it looks alright.
My only problem with using the wild horses tach on my truck is I have a 3 hole gauge panel with the bronco speedo cluster so i would need another matching gauge to fill the second hole and since i already have an oil pressure gauge and volt meter in my center cluster there is no other separate gauge i know of that matches the factory style and the wild horses tach. So until i decide to mess around with gauge clusters again ill just run an autometer tach and gauge.
(yes i know i have two volt meters right now, the separate one is just being used to fill the extra hole in the gauge panel until i decide what i wanna put there)
hey bill whats the proper name for the "cup" that holds the speedo, gauges and all the lights for the cluster that then screws into the dash panel with 4 screws?

How about a vacuum gauge in place of the second volt meter in the right hand location?
How about a vacuum gauge in place of the second volt meter in the right hand location?

That's what I was thinking but I'm not a fan of the vacuum gauge for that series of autometer gauges. I was thinking of a second temp gauge so I could have trans and engine temp
I agree on the Autometer vac gauge, I don't care for the "backwards" scale if it's the one I'm thinking of. Transmission temp would be good especially if you have an automatic.
