I have a 1975 F100 with a c-6 tranny. I believe the switch on the tranny is bad because I can run a jumper wire to the lights and they work. I think I have located the switch and wanted to know how dificult it is to remove and if I take it out can I drive the truck to the partys store or will I lose tranny fluid thru the hole?
I'd try a test light at the reverse switch on the tranny. Key on, engine off, tranny in neutral, brakes set, wheels chocked, (so you don't get run over by you're own truck) you should have power at the switch. If you do, then check the wireing to the lights. If there's no power, check fuses.

Its not that difficult just the location. and NO you cant pull the switch out the the side of transmission and drive it anywhere. Driving it with a bad reverse switch will not hurt it so drive to the store and back and let everything cool so you dont burn youself under there. Then do it.
Oh and I would check the wiring first like ubereal2 said above.
I go back and re- read 79f250 6.6l post; as far as I know as he stated; the 1st year for NSS on trans was 78 models, all earlier modles its on the column. I have a 78, 76 & access to a 77 model.
The 76 & 77 are column & my 78 is on the side of the trans. for sure.
Thanks for the advice, I took a peek under the dash and found what I think is the neutral safty switch and nothing else or is it higher on or (in the column)?
Then I guess my problem is more then the switch. Iam guessing something is suppose to stick out of the slot of the steering column to move the switch? And I dont have anything sticking out to move the switch.
