With a 4 speed, the backup light switch screws into the shift tower = 1967 and later. 1966 and earlier trucks did not have backup lights.

If the trans is from 1967 and later, it has a backup light switch.

New Process 435: The switch screws into the part of tower the shift lever fits into-drivers side.

Warner T-18: The switch screws into the tower, behind the portion of the tower the shift lever fits into-drivers side rear.

C9TZ15520C .. Backup Light Switch-2 Male Connectors-Use with Warner or New Process 4 Speeds (Motorcraft SW840)

This is just a simple switch, and it's most likely still there, because if it wasn't, gear oil would be spewing from the threaded hole it screws into.

The wire harness that plugs into the backup light switch is part of and feeds off the taillight wiring harness that runs along the left frame rail.
