I don't have the $$$ for a 4in exhaust. So what if anything can I gain by removing the muffler and weldind a pipe in? My truck didn't come with a cat, but you can't hear the turbo like you can in my buddies 97.
I was in your shoes, so I took mine to a local shop and had him do the muffler deleate. It did cost me a C note, but that was for a 4(?) foot section of straight pipe, plus an eight inch section of 4 inch for the air filter.I figured if was worth it, those guys weld for a living. As far as gain, I don't have any numbers, but the better you can get your rig to breath in and out, It's gota help. Get your self a 6637 NAPA air filter too( thats what the section of 4 inch pipe was for, plus extra for a friend).
i dont know how much you have to spend but i got my straight SS Magnaflow system with a generic 5" tip for about 320 after tax. I would imagine having shop labor thrown in on top of the little bit of piping you would have to buy would be fairly close. Plus the full system is Awesome and really easy to install, about an hour.
Will the Truck get alot louder? wife already complains it is too loud already. Mine does not have a cat either.
It made a big difference in mine. With the windows up, its not to bad.. but put the windows down & mines a LOT louder.. especially when you are close to something for the exhaust to echo off of. but I like it !!!!
It's loud w/ the passenger side window down...Reminds me of a High Horsepower boat actually when U lay into it....I put my Muffler back on because it was too much and Instantly felt a Power reduction and higher EGT's....gotta figure something else out.
Some Video that you can listen to if you have the right speakers. My lap top wouldn't let me. But my plugged in speakers at work was nice a loud. Amplified speakers.. I marked the driveway so i park in the same spot and didn't move the computer.
5 seconds of idle
5 seconds of EBPV closed (as it would on cold mornings)
then a couple Varooms,Varooms..
Stock 3 1/2 system with muffler and Muffler delete.
I don't have that many miles on it since i did it. It is louder and more fluttery sounding. It don't really bug me but the EBPV is unbelievably louder. Almost hate it. OMG.. I will let it be for now and see how loud it is with pulling the camper . But i think it is tolerable.
My plan "b" and has been discussed on FTE jrf250, was the muffler that is.. Pass thru type.
