I resently bought a miller auto darken welding helmet off craigslist and guess what I'm having problems with it. It's slow to darken or not at all. I'v played with all the settings and even put a new battery in it. I even let it lay in the sun for 10-15 minutes to see if that would help charge it. But no luck. Have any of you heard or seen this problem and is there any place I can take it for repairs. Thanks
I just bought one of the Miller Performance auto darkening helmets and have been very pleased with it. I haven't used it a lot but I have not had any of the trouble you describe. It seems like there is a lot of ways to adjust it and I haven't figured them all out yet but hopefully that is all that yours requires. Did you get an owner's manual with it? If not you might be able to get a copy from the Miller website.
There should be 2 or 4 sensors in the front of the lense. Make sure they are not blocked or dirty. Also there should be adjustments for sensitivity and delay, play with those you should notice a difference. I set my sensitivity so when I looked at a flourecent light it would darken.
Good news got my helmet working now! It was an easy fix. When I got the helmet off craigslist there are a dead battery in it so I replaced it with exactly what was in there. That were I screwed up! I should have look in the owners manual to see what miller called for. So I went to a local Miller dealer and we tryied a "Miller" battery and presto it works great! The numbers on the batterys were the same but the radio shack battery had a "N" on the end of the number. $5 battery almost cost me having to get a new $300helmet!!
