Well Ohio to Vegas was too much for the wife to handle. She said something about changing the locks which reminded me I needed to go to Lowe's so I went for a drive. As soon as the truck warmed up it read "cleaning exhaust filter" so it was definitely ready. I drove around until the message cleared and tried to run a few tests. Im not sure my tests are fair though. The other day it was 45 degrees and tonight it was 19. The truck feels a little better to me (of course now I am way over thinking this whole thing) but the funny part is that I couldnt get it to go past 27-28 psi. I went the wrong direction!!! I have talked to a few reliable sources that tell me the boost is effected by a lot of different factors including the air conditions outside. I didnt try any burnouts or passing anyone but the truck does feel a little better to me after the regen. Its quite possible that the truck has been trying to regen for a while but I wasnt giving it the chance. This is the nice thing about the IC reflash because at least now I know. I will keep an eye on it and report back if I learn anything more after driving the truck a little more this weekend.
I am really starting to think that if the 6.4 isn't worked hard for a while it causes problems. What do you think? I run mine hard everytime I drive it. Either highway for a while at high speeds or towing and have never had any power or regen issues.
I agree with you gwcon. Even though I went through a regen this evening I was only cruising 50 mph and even had to stop at a light or 2. Since the regen relies on heat to burn everything off I have to believe that my regen would have been more efficient if I was on the hwy or had a load behind me.
This is very interesting and it is truely amazing that most dealers can't figure this out before the people on FTE. I really believe that this may be the contributing factor to a lot of people's problems.
I guess that I am fortunate that I work the crap out of mine everytime she leaves the yard.
If I am going for a driving stroll or not pulling I take the 05 6.0.
For what it's worth, I'm thinking the same thing. My truck will get worked pretty hard just about every week too. Next week I will tow an empty trailer (10K) 700 miles, then a load (15K) home. As you guys know, I get to do this weekly but the weights change a lot. This past week I only hauled tools/gear.
Anyway, I suggested the same thing to the guy that posted about his brand new 08 who seemed to lose confidence in his truck. Told him to live with it, break it in, and then work it hard.
I also think that removing the regen at idle may turn out to be a bad thing in the long run. If you could just let it finish it's cycle, or continue while you run an errand or something, it would keep folks from just driving around aimlessly.
Caprang probably would be happier not having to figure out where to drive to. BTW, Caprang, if there is somebody around so that your fam is not alone, go to Vegas anyway! That big bad HD 350 needs to cruise!!
