How do you install a brake controller for a 1996 Bronco. It has all the wiring from the back up. A Ford mechanic told me this model had the wiring under the dash somewhere and all that was needed was to wire it in. How do you find these wires? Do you still need to buy an adapter for the wires so they just plug right in? How hard is this? Don't want to pay to have it installed.
Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will endeavor to get you the most accurate information we can muster.
The Bronco and F-series had wiring in the dash for trailer brake controller as early as 1984. It should be a connector or at the very least, a bundled wire set that is capped off. Should be in the area behind the small recessed shelf near the middle of the lower part of the dash. The idea being that the controller would sit on that shelf and you could run the wiring in from behind through a small hole drilled in the back of the recess.
Thanks greystreak...hooking up the brake control was simple. Bought a Ford harness for the brake controller and it plugged right in to what was already ran up under the dash. It was ticking me off with everyone telling me the Broncos weren't pre-wired and I would need to spend $300 to have that done plus the controller, plus the harness, plus the labor. I knew it couldn't be that hard. Thanks for your help again.
