If I bought parts from RacerX to rebuild my E4OD, would I be able to build a tranny as good as the BTS with a decent cost savings? I'd be willing to spend $2-3k on parts. Anyone know exactly what BTS's rebuild all includes, changes, or modifies? I'm not afraid of doing the work, as long as I'm not gonna spend as much as having a quality peice already built for me. Whats your thoughts guys?
RacerX transmission can be just as good as a BTS in my inexperienced with either products opinion. If you build it your self you do loose the warrantee that makes the BTS great. I have spoken to Bill (RacerX) and you might be surprised what you can get for 2-3K. For just a little more over 3K you can have him build the trans and ship it to you.
I believe that the average wrench can build a good transmission but I also believe there is something to be said about having an expert build the transmission. They know how tight the clutch packs should be and they also have little tips and trick for drilling fluid passages and what not that I am not positive they like the public to know about. Call Bill and talk to him about a transmission package. It will be time well spent. He will get my business when I need a trans (might not be long!)
While on the subject, where can I get a rebuilt E4OD? Mine is on it's last legs as well. As long as I'm not WOT-ing everywhere it's fine, but its not going to last forever. I'd like to replace it in the future.

These are all the thoughts running through my mind. First, as far as the BTS warranty, it sounds great, but I'm in Wisconsin and he's in Arkansas. Even consider the initial purchase, shipping or drive there? To say you could have a constant relationship with BTS for purchase and warranty might be impractical given the distance between.
And the tips and tricks of the pros was my other concern. I did briefly talk with Bill several months ago and he sounded like he'd be very helpful regaurding parts and rebuild. And he also has the manual, although I think we already have one here. But even with these resources I'm sure companies like BTS have there own secret recipies to build a tranny.
I believe, (although I could be wrong) that some of the folks that build these trannys for severe service/duty make some of their own parts that aren't available to the general public for purchase.
If good is good enough, (in my case it is) then do it yourself. But if you need or want the best, pay the experts to do it, and know it's being done right.
