Got a 2002 f350 in the shop. It will run for about 10 min at 2000 rpm and then just shut off, and will not start for about 30 min. its a 7.3l. its almost like the fuel just shuts off. if you have any ideas please let me know. thanks
Once it shuts off, i would check the fuel bowl by removing the lid and checking the fuel level.. or... it could be the famous cam position sensor, which there has been a recall. Ford will replace it free.. (if it is black in color..)
Welcome to FTE. Can you give us any more background info? Does it do this at any RPM or just 2000? Are there any modifications that have been done to the truck? Your shop or did you take it to a mechanic? Is a scanner that can read live data available? When it shuts off does it sputter, cough and then die, or more like someone pulled a fuel cut off switch like they used to use on diesels? Is the motor oil full, and is there any signs of aerated oil? After the truck shuts off and the key is shut off immediately after, is the fuel filter bowl still full of fuel? Any DTC's in the computer or dash lights that come on, flash, or don't go off like normal? If you try and restart it right after the stall, can you see any smoke coming out of the tail pipe? When it starts back up after 30 min., does it idle like normal or rough?
