Just bought a '73 F100 today, and it had the orginial 360 and tranny swapped out for a '77 400 with a C6 at some point in it's life.
The problem I am having is that after shifting into drive or reverse, after a few mins, it drops{?} out of gear and will not move. The only way to get it to shift again is to shut off the truck for about 5 mins, and then it will shift into gear, but only for a few mins again.

Any ideas as to the cause??
I don't see any mention of any tests being done but this sounds like a low fluid level or clogged filter.
A clogged breather will cause an incorrect fluid reading.
If the breather is clean and the level is correct remove the pan and look for anything clogging the pickup screen.
