rebuilt holly

I recently rebuilt a four barrel cabrburator on my 77 f150 after re-installing a new problem arose. Now evertime I stop and idle the idle speed increases so that I have to place the transmition in neutral to keep it from taking off. I checked the throttle linkage and its not sticking. Does any one know what the cause could be? This is an automatic 1977 F150 400. Thanks.

You may need to re-adjust the timing with a new or rebuilt carb. I did with my new Iddy Performer carb. Also, the jets in the carb may now be the wrong size for your engine. I am going through this right now. After replacing he metering rods it improved, and next I am putting larger jets in to slow it down. Is it only when it's idling, only when it warms up, or all the time? Did you adjust the fast idle screw? The idle circuit screws? Just a few thoughts. Good luck!
