I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I just bought a 2002 F-250 CC, 4x4, Auto. I will be hanging around here a lot. I had a 96 PSD a year ago so I have some help to bring to the forum. I have a pretty good oil tube leak repair and electric fan build in my write-ups.
I do have some questions I wanted to get out first off.
What size fuel tank do I have? I thought these came with thirty gallon tanks but if that is the case I am getting bad very bad mpg.
I have spent a few days reading all of your posts so I am not asking this as a newbie without reading. Where should I start on maintiance for my truck . What would you do if you just bought your truck? I know this is part opinion but I really wanted to hear everyones ideas. Thanks
is it a long bed or short bed? might be 29gal tank. but if its long bed its i 38gal.
check for fuel bowl leaks, clean EBPS and tube thats in the front of the motor and tube is comming of PS exhaust, ditch stock filter box , and get AIS od Kwick filter , get the intake tubes off clean it good inside, inspect the turbo minwhile to see if the blades are not damaged. do the CCV reroute, and since you just got it change all the filters and fluids since you dont know what PO did with those and when they were changed last time, just for piece of mind...
and welcome to the Forums Casey....
and ask any questions you feel you cand find an answer to....
Welcome up to forum 31! If I was you on maintaince I would start with changing all the fluids (Oil, flush Coolent unless red, transmission/transfer case, differentials). Change your air filter/upgrade to a 6637, AIS, or AFE Stage 2, change your fuel filter just to start off with a few maintance things. Also Changing your Powersteering fluid with some Syn. ATF and changing your Brake fluid would be agreat idea as well.
Also if it is a 4x4 I would lub your front hubs Welcome to guzzle's Ford PSD Maintenance Web Page. Also you need to check your caliper slide pins on your brakes to make sure they are lose because when they lock up thats it your brakes will be going down hill quick.
Welcome to the 7.3 section. Don't feel bad about asking questions here. You won't be told to go do a search. We do our best to answer all the questions no matter how many times they've been asked before.
As for the fuel tank, do you have a short bed or long bed? The long bed has a 38 gallon tank, the short bed is twenty something gallons.
As for preventative maintenance, how many miles on the odometer? The first thing I'd do is take the lid off the air filter and make sure the box is not allowing any dirt to pass by the filter. See if there is any signs of dirt in the intake tube going to the turbo. If you hung out in the OBS section, I assume your familiar with the 6637?
Then I'd change fluids and filters, including tranny, diffs, power steering fluid (it takes ATF), brake fluid, coolant. Then go ahead and swap out the upper radiator hose for the one for a dual alternator truck so the hose goes around the belt instead of through it. You might want to change the serpentine belt also.
Next, I'd clean and tighten the 6 boots on the intercooler plumbing and inspect the up pipes for any signs of an exhaust leak. After that, I like to pull the valve covers and re-torque the rocker arm pedestal bolts to 20 ft-lbs and the lower injector hold down bolt to 120 in-lbs. This is also a good time to install retainer clips or fabricate your own shim so the UVCH connector doesn't come loose on you down the road.
It's also a good idea to pick up a spare CPS and throw it, a 10 mm socket, and a screwdriver in the glove box in case that goes out on you.
If you have any questions about what I've said, or any other questions, ask away.
its 29 gal per owners manual. if you have short bed. 31 gal will fit there if you stand by the pump next 10 min and drip in to the tank unless you do tank mod, and cut the filler pipe and overflow pipe inside tank...
you can have dealer do oasis which will tell you what options were in it ,or ger the # from the axle tag, thats attached to one of the bolts. if its still there....
Welcome to the 7.3 forum. It looks like these guys got you plenty of stuff to get you started. Just ask away on the questions. Plenty of knowledge is shared here along with some amazing people.
Welcome to FTE!
Short bed Tank holds 29 gallons. I would get an Qasis report to tell you what has been done to your truck. Also, there is a recall on the CPS. I would stop by your local ford dealer and let him check to see if you have the new CPS.
Welcome caseydudem
You can find answers to your mod and maintenance questions here (as JD mentioned): Welcome to guzzle's Ford PSD Web Pages Lots of good info on the " how to's". It will explain the caliper pin upgrade.
For a quick check on the axle couldn't I jack the rear up and turn the tires by hand. My Dad told me some time ago that you could tell if it had limited slip by which direction the the other tire would spin. I think this has worked for me before.
Did the superduties all come with the 4R100 trannies?
yes you have 4R100 for sure, and to get you rear gearing im not 100% positive but it was driveshaft revolutions vs tire turn. or the other way.
im sure somone will help you out with that shortly.
