I have removed my oil oil cooler for replacement, when I removed the cooler there is a large valley full of oil underneath, I vacumed the oil to check for any contamination, do I need to refill this valley before I put the cooler on? will I need to prime the oil cooler? if so How? Also I found a screen on the right side of the valley one of the screen windows was torn from the frame, is this screen really neccessary it looks useless? has anyone removed it? it looks very flimsy, if deleting it is not a problem then Im taking it out, if not I guess Ill have to buy a new one from ford. They will probably want 100 bucks for the damn thing. Oyea any other comments on replacing the cooler?
Yea when I did my oil cooler replacement we put about a half a quart of oil back in that valley. I also replaced that screen filter while I was there it was 18.00 from Ford. I hope you did a complete Egr delete while you were that deep in.
Oyea I welded up a brand new cooler this morning with pipe plugs and ss rods. I got a deal on a new egr and oil cooler so Im replacing them both along with the "6 injector and the icp sensor while Ive got it out. Whats the screen for? It looks like a potential problem if it comes apart, it feels brittle. Of course my truck has 158k really hard miles on it.
Were is the IPR? and what is it? Im waiting on my shop manual, and an OEM oil filter cap because the one that is on the truck is a wix with the cap made onto the filter.
The IPR is the Injection Pressure Regulator. It is the valve that takes the signal from the ICP to control the oil pressure (high pressure system). The WIX filter is a reason you have screen damage IMO. They can bypass and they can come apart. Lots of info on this. Ford has training videos discussing this. One video has a Q/A w/ techs and one tech found a lifter roller bearing in the oil pan on the magnet - the conclusion was poor lubrication and poor filtration.
