Our local garage said they'd do the clutch replacement for $250 labor. I think we’ll go that route, then tackle the brakes next weekend. I think they’re going to need everything; rotors, calipers…

I'm with you on that!! I can think of at least 4 clutches that I've done, and each time I swear that it will be the last time. fficeffice" /><O></O> When I was younger I had a motto ‘never pay someone to do something that you can do yourself’. After I turned 50, I reversed that motto. <O></O>
If you farm out the clutch job, ensure the flywheel is resurfaced if needed.

I just score more tools to make jobs easier, and the cash I save makes that a paying proposition. (Never lift manually what you can lift with machinery, in this case a floor jack is sufficient. ) By all means pay someone if you wish (mechanics need to eat too!) but on the scale of manual transmissions the Ranger is easy work and a good training opportunity if teaching someone else.
to work on aero tranny is easier, becouse you can unscrew 2 upper bolts from cabine. To uncrew these bolts under ranger is more difficult. Anyway it is much easier then to drop semitrucktor tranny...
