harmonica balancer removal
harmonica balancer removal
i have a 89 2.9L V6 in a bronco ii. can anyone tell me how to get the harmonica balancer off? i have removed the pulley and the bolt that holds the balancer to the crank. i have tried the usual balancer puller which doesn't seem to work. it seems to be working against it's self. when i look in the ford manual is says remove the center bolt and take the balancer off. no such luck there. so that's where i'm at. what am i missing or doing wrong? thanks
If you have removed all the bolts and there is nothing visible holding the balancer to the crank, then a puller should remove it. It may be a little difficult to remove (believe me, I have seen balancers and other things take quite a bit of persuasion to free up). You may wish to soak things in PB blaster or WD-40 and tap it lightly to allow it to work in to where the crank and balancer join, and then try the puller. Should be using a 3-finger jaw-type with the center bolt - and I believe there is an adapter for the center of the crankshaft, but I can't remember off the top of my head. Hope this helps.
