I am having a hard time removing the harmonic balancer on my 93 Bronco (302). I have been unable to budge it with a puller. Someone suggested that I remove the radiator for clearance, and then with a sledge hammer strike the center bolt of the harmonic balancer puller while under tension. So far no luck. Any suggestions?
I don't mean to insult your intelligence. Did you remove the bolt first? If yes, after applying liberal amonts of penetrating oil, then while having tension on the puller, use a series of firm raps, like an impact hammer instead of a few hard hits.
Yes, I removed the bolt first, but funny you should ask. The space that the bolt was in had been caked with mud. When I removed the bolt, I didn't notice the LARGE mud covered washer underneath it. The puller worked so much better without that there washer in the way.
