I need some help from Conanski please

Mr. Conanski, I am getting ready to rebuild a 351w from an 83 ford F250. I am wondering about heads. The truck will need a strong bottom end. It will be for mud, sand, and trails. Max torque from 1000-4000 rpm. Just wondering what size chambers and runners a guy would need for this purpose. Had someone in another thread say they thought 351M heads would work and flow real good, but the adapting is pretty extensive? Any thoughts on that? Thanks, for your knowledge.

I know im not conanski, but im also rebuilding a 351W for my mud truck, and im going with the Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads. Ive heard nothing but good things about these heads from people that run them.

The only two things I do not like about the twisted wedge heads is 1) Price. 2) I am not looking to use their pistons-(back to price) I am looking for a more budget oriented build. Take a set of heads off another vehicle, rebuild them and stick them on my truck. But thanks for the info.

I am not going to use their pistons either. If you need their pistons is wholly dependant on the cam you get. Before you rule them out, figure out what cam you are going to go with, and call up trick flow. Give them the specs, (part number also if its got one) and they will tell you right there if you will be able to run stock pistons or not. Only with really agressive cams or high compression do you need to use their pistons.
My build is going to be a completely stock lower end.

Heres their phone number. I know its up to you, i just dont want you to rule something out because its not an option, when really it still is:

It seems you don't want to spool the motor too high so a set of E7's or GT40's will likely do the trick for you. Put some flattop pistons in the bottom end for roughly 9.5:1 CR, and install something like the Performer intake and a conservative cam and the motor will make great power where you want it. I can add some more specifics later....

Thanks rebel, I am not going to rule anything out. I still have to pull the motor and tear it down. I will keep them in mind. Also thanks conanski. I was wondering if gt40's would work good for the low end power. I am planning on running a holley truck avenger carb. probably a 670cfm, but maybe a 470 depending on need. How much adapting would I have to do to get the gt40's to fit my windsor block?? Thanks again

If the set you get is off a 302 then you just need to drill out the bolt holes to 1/2".

lew, those are Cleveland heads, not Windsor heads, and won't be used in 5.0 Mustangs without $$ custom intakes.

Maybe you're thinking of C9OE & D0OE 351W heads?

There is more support now than ever for clevors. Although i dont recommend for this build, edelbrock even makes clevor intakes for the 302 and 351w, they call them e-boss. Cylinder head innovations makes the real badass stuff that afr can't touch.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the info. I was looking on ebay this morning and found several sets of gt40p heads for 300 to 500 bucks. Not bad considering jegs and summit are more than that for 1 LOL. Does a machine shop have to drill out the holes, or is it something I can do?? I know a machinist I could take it to, I am just wondering. Thanks
