You don't necessarily need that piece of pipe to make it work.
What I did was to remove that piece of rubber pipe from the truck, thoroughly clean, degrease everything. Then I forced it down over the lip on the filter itself and clamped it. Then install the filter/rubber pipe assembly back on the engine. It never budged and I had to peel it off of the filter flange to replace it.
And I recommend doing this with the intake air temperature sensor that is mounted on the bottom half of the filter housing.
I didn't do that Dan, I zip tied it close to the filter. Is this bad?
No, not really. I'm just a stickler for accuracy when it comes to engine management. I want the ECU to know exactly what temperature the air is entering the intake.
I ran it for nearly a year with the sender tucked under the filter, riding on top of the fender liner, no issues at all.
I zip tied mine to the brake master cylinder and have had no problems. I think this is where most people have put their AIT sensor that have done the 6637 mod.
