Hey fellas,
I'm just stopping in to ask, which brand of rust remover would you recommend? I'm prying at some hood hinges on a 1961 F100 that I picked up and could use something to free them up a bit.
I'm used to fighting rust with a wire brush and a grinding wheel but I need a little something extra to free these hinges up. I've heard WD-40, PB'laster, and a few home brewed ideas but I want to know which would work best from your experience. Thanks in advance!
I can vouch for the spray on stuff believe it or not, my turbo that I sold not too long ago was cleaned up pretty well, but I can't remember which type of stuff was used!
PB Blaster is the best thing I've ever used for automotive/industrial/equipment use.
I've used Kroil A LOT for/in my Gun/Gunsmithing shop and it's great for certain things but it doesn't seem to do much to rust. Especially heavy rust.
It's an AWESOME penetrating oil though in the true sense of the term. I had a can of AeroKroil rupture so I poured it in a Rubbermaid/Tupperware container and it went THROUGH it! It didn't melt a hole or anything it actually went THROUGH it.
I also use it to clean high-velocity rifle bores. It seems to get under the copper fouling and help you remove it with the aid of JB Bore Paste.
Oops, I just realized you were wanting a penetrating oil rust remover, I was thinking surface/body rust remover
I agree PB blaster works, but you need to let it soak for days for extremely rusted bolts
Also a 50/50 ATF Acetone mix has worked very well for me.
My grandfather claims that if you heat a bolt up pretty hot, then take a candle and smash it on it, the hot bolt sucks in wax and makes it easier to take off
