I was wondering what the general consensus was on wheel spacers. I am having some slight rubbing issues with my new tires and was thinking spacers may help remedy it. Any thoughts?
Much depends upon the type od spacer that you choose. A simple slip on spacer is not going to get any positive feedback, and the bolt on style will almost send you to the poor house. You will have to consider that most late model wheels are hub-centric and not lug-centric, so the hub itself supports the weight and not the lug nuts. This cant be done with some spacers, so you will lose some capacity through the spacer method.
Now, I am not a fan of any spacer really because of the change in weight ditribution through the hub and the affected scrub radius changes, not to mention the added potential for failure.
Some have run spacers without issue, but at 100 bucks a corner, this does not seem like a reasonable solution when the proper wheel with the correct offset would benifit.
Thanks for the input. I am sort of swaying away from the spacers now based on what Ive read this morning and your post. The rubbing only occurs in tight turns, and from what I hear it is to be expected anyways. I figured I could get rid of it with some 1" hub centric spacers, but it doesnt seem worth the hassle.
