I have a 1993 F-150 I-6 manual transmission and of course there isn't a lot of power there. I'm thinking I'll need a new exhaust system soon, and am wondering if there are any aftermarket exhausts that may give me a little extra HP for not a ton of bucks.
For about $170 you should be able to get a 2.5" cat-back with a free flow muffler. Dont go any larger than a 2.5" because there's not enough back pressure. Get a K&N if you dont already have one.
If you have the two cats in series, a cheap way to go based on a previous posting, is to drop your original muffler and insert a straight pipe. Keep the rest of your exhaust stock to the rear of the truck. It will be only slightly louder, due to the cats. It it is too loud for your taste, you can go back and substitute a high-performance muffler for the straight pipe insert. The straight pipe experiment cost me only a couple of hours and $15.
i have a 300 i6 with a c6 tranny and am gona cut the cats off already decided not going to replace but i wana know what would happen if i were to run straight off the two pipes going into the cats and make a duel exhaust outa that but down the truck a ways increase to 2.5"straight pipes all the way back will that be enough backpressure
I have an '87 F-150 4X4 LWB regular cab, w/ EFI 300-6 cyl., 4 spd. tranny and dual exhaust. I cut the factory exhaust off at the two manifold tubes like you mentioned, ran 2" pipes to clear the tranny crossmember, then stepped up to 2 1/2"X18" Thrush glasspacks, the exit end of the glasspacks came out even with the rear of the cab, w/ 2 1/2" pipes the rest of the way out the back. Helped power noticably and gas mileage somewhat (13.6 MPG). But I do alot of hauling and towing. Sounds great to me, one guy in town told me that I had a great sounding 302, but I didn't tell him any different.
Cherry Bombs are another brand name of glass packs. Basically glass packs are mufflers that are straight through - you can look straight through them. The muffling comes from fiberglass packing.
i understand what a glass pack is but the cherry bomb and the turbo tubes are both glass packs and they sound way different and these people witht he thrush say theres sounds like a 302 i want that sound
I've got a 91 f-150 I-6 and cut out the stock muffler and welded in a 2 1/4" flowmaster and added a K&N aircleaner. Flowmaster recommended keeping the stock 2 1/4" pipes to maintain backpressure for lowend torque. I can sure feel the difference especially when towing. The truck isn't loud, just a nice mellow rumble.
Got my parts through Summit Catalog (about 100.00 bucks all together) and a muffler shop can weld the muffler in for about $30 if you don't have access to a welder.
IVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT MODIFYING MY 300 6 WITH A 4BBL CARB, AND RUNNING AN IGNITION OTHER THAN THE STOCK TFI-IV, MY 86 HAS A SINGLE OUTLET TO THE EXHAUST ON THE MANIFOLD, I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD USE A LATER MODEL SPLIT MANIFOLD , OR IF THEIR IS EMMISIONS HEADERS WITH THE EGR TUBE ON THEM. BECAUSE I WAS CONSIDERING KEEPING THE EGR FOR INSPECTION PURPOSES. I WANT DUAL EXHAUST BAD.
SOME BODY ELSE HERE ASKED "IS THERE TURBO OR SUPERCHARGERS AVAILIBLE FOR THE 300 SIX?" WELL IS THERE?
